The Most Common Pests in Spring

Spring flowers

As Spring approaches pests will wake up and become more active.

Ants

Ants are a very common sight when Spring comes around and you can see them in abundance outside. If you find ants in your home, the first thing to do is put all your food in cupboards in sealed containers. Also, make sure that there are no crumbs or liquid spills which can attract ants.

When ants find food in your home they leave a scent trail so they can find their way back to the food. This then attracts other ants. You can try to stop them getting in by blocking holes around the doors or windows.

Flies

Flies can be irritating if you spend a lot of time outside in the Spring. They can also contaminate your food indoors if they land on it.

You can use screens on windows and doors to stop them coming into your home in the first place. Also, as with ants make sure there is no food left out indoors.

Mosquitoes

It is important to remove any standing water in your garden where mosquitoes can breed. Screens on doors and windows will help to stop them getting into your home and using insect repellent on your skin will help to stop you getting bitten while you are outside.

Cockroaches

Cockroaches like places that are warm and damp such as bathrooms and kitchens. They are adaptable and breed very quickly which means they are very hard to get rid of.

As with other insects you should make sure there are no holes where cockroaches can get into your home, keep surfaces and floors clean and store food securely. They can contaminate food and surfaces and transmit disease to humans, so if you spot them you should Contact Tom urgently.
